English, Filipino and Taglish, the everyday mix of the two, all appear in Philippine listings and searches, often within one product title. Cebuano and other regional languages dominate conversation in the Visayas and Mindanao, but storefronts rarely use them. Prices are in pesos (PHP). GCash and Maya lead digital payments, but cash on delivery remains a standard checkout option on marketplaces, and delivery times and fees change markedly between Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and the smaller islands across the Visayas and Mindanao. Much selling also happens through Facebook pages and live selling, with orders confirmed over Messenger.
Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop are the main marketplaces. Double-date sales such as 9.9, 10.10 and 11.11 bring sharp price changes, and paydays on the 15th and at month end trigger their own promotions. Carousell hosts much of the second-hand trade, and GrabFood and foodpanda handle restaurant delivery. On Lamudi, condos in Makati, Bonifacio Global City and Ortigas form a separate market from provincial house-and-lot listings. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines publish peso fares that move with seat sales, a common target for fare comparison. The Philippine Daily Inquirer, GMA News, Rappler and Philstar are the main news publishers carrying local display advertising.
Google dominates search, and Taglish queries return different results and ads from pure English ones, especially for local services. The Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), enforced by the National Privacy Commission, governs personal data.
The Philippine shopping year starts early. Christmas promotions begin in September, the first of the so-called ber months, and build through December, when employers must pay the 13th-month pay required by law before 24 December. Overseas Filipino workers send balikbayan boxes home in the same months, so cargo and shipping prices peak alongside retail demand. Holy Week in March or April is the main domestic travel peak, when resorts in Boracay, Palawan and Siargao raise rates and ferry and flight seats sell out. The start of the school year brings back-to-school promotions on bags, gadgets and uniforms across marketplaces and malls.
