Officially bilingual, Cameroon shows it online: most storefronts and searches are in French, but the Northwest and Southwest regions, around Bamenda and Buea, use English, so a site localised only in French misses part of the country. Prices are in the Central African CFA franc (XAF). Douala, the commercial port, and Yaoundé, the capital, are where delivery apps and online stores concentrate. MTN MoMo and Orange Money are the wallets checkout pages are built around, and Wave has entered as a third option.
Glotelho is a Cameroonian online store selling phones, appliances and fashion, with payment by Mobile Money, Orange Money or cash on delivery and showrooms for collection. CoinAfrique runs a Cameroonian classifieds edition for vehicles, phones and property. Gozem and Yango compete in rides and delivery. Jumia left Cameroon in 2019, so there is no pan-African marketplace to benchmark against. For publisher monitoring, Cameroon Tribune is the state daily printed in French and English, Actu Cameroun and Investir au Cameroun cover news and business, and The Guardian Post serves English-language readers.
Google is the dominant search engine, and French and English queries for the same product often return different local sites, so keyword sets need both languages. Personal data is now governed by Law No. 2024/017 of 23 December 2024 on the protection of personal data, which creates a dedicated data protection authority and whose compliance period ended in June 2026.
Douala, the largest city and economic capital, handles most of Cameroon's exports and serves as a gateway for the wider CEMAC region, including landlocked Chad and the Central African Republic, while the newer deep-water port at Kribi is taking over part of that traffic. Goods landed on the coast travel north to Ngaoundéré, Garoua and Maroua, where the Sahel climate, Fulfulde as a common language and long transport distances make the north a separate market. Camair-Co, the national airline, lists Douala, Yaoundé, Garoua, Maroua, Ngaoundéré and Bafoussam as domestic points but runs a small fleet, so confirm a route is actually operating before comparing domestic fares.
