Market context
Online shopping in Laos happens mostly inside social apps rather than on a national marketplace. Sellers post products on Facebook and TikTok, take orders by chat and get paid by bank QR code, most often through the BCEL One app, or in cash when the parcel arrives. Storefront text is in Lao and prices are in kip (LAK), although property and vehicle listings often quote US dollars or Thai baht as well. Lao and Thai are closely related languages, so many Lao readers also follow Thai-language shops, videos and news, and a local seller can end up competing with Thai pages for the same buyer.
The platforms worth watching are few, and most of them are concentrated in the capital. foodpanda delivers restaurant food in Vientiane, Pakse and several other towns, and LOCA combines taxis, food orders and its own QR payments in Vientiane and Luang Prabang. OneX sells goods from inside the BCEL One banking app, Yula.la runs classified ads for cars, property and jobs, and FazWaz.la lists homes for sale and rent in Vientiane. The Vientiane Times, the state news agency KPL and the Laotian Times are the usual English-language references for local news.
Google is the dominant search engine, but Lao-language web content is limited, so the same query can return Thai or English pages depending on how it is written. Electronic personal data falls under the Law on Electronic Data Protection (No. 25/NA) of 2017.
Travel prices are the clearest local benchmark in Laos. Seats on the Laos-China Railway, which links Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and the northern border town of Boten, are sold through the LCR mobile app and at stations, and popular departures can sell out. A separate line from the Thai side brings trains from Bangkok and Nong Khai into Vientiane. Lao Airlines runs domestic and regional flights, while minivans and buses still serve towns away from the railway. Hotel and guesthouse rates in Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng rise in the cool, dry high season from November to March and are often posted in US dollars.
Measured
Measured from our gateway in the Netherlands. Results describe the test, not a reserved exit, city or network. How we measure
In Laos: Check how campaigns render for Lao visitors on the Vientiane Times and Laotian Times sites, on Thai-language pages widely read in Laos, and in Google results for Lao and Thai queries.
Ad verification proxies in LaosIn Laos: Compare foodpanda menus and delivery fees between Vientiane and Pakse, LOCA fares in Luang Prabang, and Yula.la or FazWaz.la listings where the same item may be priced in kip, dollars or baht.
Market research proxiesIn Laos: Track Google rankings from Vientiane for Lao-script and Thai-script versions of the same query, since Lao pages are scarce and Thai or English results often fill the first page.

print(response.json())Google handles almost all search in Laos, so rankings should be checked on Google from a Lao connection. The harder part is language. Lao-script content is limited, and many queries return Thai-language or English pages, because Thai is widely read in Laos. Test each keyword in Lao script, Thai script and English, and note which country the top results come from, since Thai sites can outrank local ones for product and travel searches.
Start with the few dedicated platforms: foodpanda for restaurant prices and delivery fees, LOCA for ride fares and food orders in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, Yula.la for classified ads on cars, property and jobs, and FazWaz.la for Vientiane homes. Much retail selling happens on public Facebook pages and TikTok rather than on a marketplace, and in-app shops such as OneX inside BCEL One are not open web pages, so plan around public social posts.
Yes. Vientiane has the widest choice of delivery apps, shops and couriers. foodpanda also covers Pakse and Khammouane, and LOCA taxis run in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Pakse and Savannakhet. In Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng, tourist demand pushes hotel and tour prices up and many are quoted in dollars. Savannakhet and Pakse lie near the Thai border, where shoppers often compare prices with Thai towns across the Mekong.
