Three official languages share the Seychellois web. Seychelles Nation, the daily paper, publishes in English, French and Creole, while government, bank and telecom sites lean on English. Local prices are in Seychelles rupees (SCR), usually written SR or R, yet resorts, guesthouses and excursion operators on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue commonly quote in euros or US dollars, so the currency a buyer sees depends on who is selling and to whom.
Tourism drives most of the commercial traffic worth monitoring. Room rates for the same guesthouse can differ between its own site and international booking pages, and inter-island transport adds another layer: Air Seychelles flies the domestic route to Praslin, and Cat Cocos sells ferry seats between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue online. For news and advertising, the main local outlets are Seychelles Nation, the Seychelles News Agency and the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC). With no large Seychellois marketplace, retail checks focus on shop websites, hotel booking pages and the social media accounts of Victoria businesses.
Seychelles queries on Google, the default search engine, are crowded with foreign travel and review sites, which makes ranking checks from the islands themselves worth running for local businesses. Personal data is covered by the Data Protection Act, 2023 (Act 24 of 2023), in force since December 2023 and supervised by the Information Commission.
Each island is its own pricing market. Mahé holds Victoria, the international airport and most shops, restaurants and car hire, so it has the widest spread of room rates. Praslin draws day visitors to the Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site managed by the Seychelles Islands Foundation, which charges an entry fee. La Digue still runs mainly on bicycles and ox-carts, with most cars and buses owned by hotel companies, so bike hire rather than car rental appears in guesthouse offers. Outer islands such as Desroches and Alphonse each carry a single resort reached by charter flight, which makes a rate check there a check on one property.
