Market context
Ghana shops, advertises and searches in English, while Twi and other Ghanaian languages appear more in social media and broadcasting than on shop pages. Prices are in cedis (GHS), and the cedi's swings against the dollar mean imported electronics and cars are repriced often. Mobile money dominates payments: MTN MoMo is the largest wallet, Telecel Cash replaced Vodafone Cash after the 2024 rebrand, and checkouts built on Hubtel or Paystack take wallets and cards together.
Jumia runs its Ghanaian marketplace alongside Jiji, which absorbed the local classifieds site Tonaton in 2022 and is a main place to follow used car and phone prices. The Melcom department store chain is the usual reference for household goods and electronics. meQasa lists rentals and sales in cedis for Accra neighbourhoods such as East Legon, Cantonments and Spintex, plus Kumasi and Tema. Yango competes for rides. Delivery forms often ask for a GhanaPost GPS digital address, the national code system, so checkout QA should test that field with real Accra and Kumasi codes. For publisher monitoring, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline and Citi Newsroom are the major news sites.
Google is the dominant search engine, and English queries from Ghana compete with Nigerian, British and US pages, so rank checks need Ghanaian connections. Personal data is governed by the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), enforced by the Data Protection Commission; a replacement Data Protection Bill has been in consultation since 2025.
December is Ghana's peak season. Since the 2019 Year of Return campaign, the weeks from mid-December to New Year, known as Detty December, bring large numbers of diaspora visitors to Accra for concerts, parties and festivals such as AfroFuture at the end of the month. Flight seats into Accra, hotel rooms, short-let apartments and event tickets all come under pressure, and sponsorship and event advertising peak around the concerts. Price series that run through the year should mark December separately rather than averaging it in, and ad verification for Accra campaigns is most useful in those weeks, when placements, sponsored posts and outdoor tie-ins are at their densest.

print(response.json())Jumia Ghana is the main general marketplace for electronics, appliances and fashion. Jiji, which took over Tonaton, carries a large share of classified listings for used cars, phones and household goods. meQasa is the property portal for Accra, Kumasi and Tema, and the Melcom chain is a reference point for retail prices. Add GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline and Citi Newsroom if you also verify ads on local publishers.
MTN MoMo is the wallet Ghanaian checkouts support first, and Telecel Cash, formerly Vodafone Cash, is also widely accepted. Merchants usually take them through gateways such as Hubtel or Paystack, which also accept Visa and Mastercard. Marketplaces like Jumia add cash on delivery in some areas. Testing a checkout from a Ghanaian connection shows the exact wallet list each merchant offers.
Yes. Ghana has had 16 regions since a 2018 referendum split several old ones. Greater Accra and Ashanti, around Kumasi, are almost equal in population and hold most online demand, while Tamale anchors the Northern Region and Takoradi the Western Region, the oil and port area. Delivery coverage and product availability thin out beyond Accra and Kumasi, so run separate checks for Tamale and Takoradi when campaigns target them.
