Market context
Arabic dominates Jordanian storefronts and search, with English common on electronics, travel and banking sites. Prices are in JOD, which divides into 1,000 fils and often appears with three decimals, a format price parsers need to handle. Cash on delivery remains common, but the CliQ instant payment system and the eFAWATEERcom bill payment network have made bank transfers a normal checkout option, and many stores now list them beside cards. Aqaba is a special economic zone with lower sales tax, so some prices there differ from those in Amman.
OpenSooq, which now runs classifieds across the Arab world, was founded in Amman and remains the default place in Jordan to list cars, apartments and jobs, with separate city sections for Amman, Irbid, Zarqa and Aqaba. Talabat is the main app for food and grocery delivery, Careem covers rides, and Smart Buy is a common reference for electronics and appliance prices. Roya News, Al Ghad, Ammon News and the English-language Jordan Times are the local publishers where display campaigns and sponsored content appear.
Google is the dominant search engine, and Jordanian Arabic queries often return Saudi, Egyptian and Gulf pages beside local ones, so rank checks need a Jordanian vantage point to show which local businesses actually reach the first page. Many users also type Arabic in Latin letters, known as Arabizi, so keyword lists need both scripts. Personal Data Protection Law No. 24 of 2023 took effect in March 2024, with a transition period for existing processing that ended in March 2025.
Tourism prices in Jordan depend on who is buying. Entry fees at Petra and other major sites are far lower for Jordanians and residents than for foreign visitors, and the Jordan Pass bundles the tourist visa fee with entry to more than 40 attractions, including Petra, Jerash and Wadi Rum. Royal Jordanian, the national carrier, flies from Queen Alia International Airport near Amman, while King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba serves the Red Sea coast and the southern desert sites. Hotel rates at the Dead Sea and in Aqaba rise on weekends and public holidays, when Jordanian families travel, so rate checks should compare weekday and weekend dates.

print(response.json())OpenSooq. It was founded in Amman and is the default place where Jordanians list cars, apartments, jobs and second-hand goods, with city sections for Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, Aqaba and other governorates. Prices are in JOD and asking prices vary widely between Amman neighbourhoods and smaller cities, so compare listings city by city. Talabat and Careem are the other local apps worth tracking for delivery and ride pricing.
Cash on delivery is still common, but bank transfers have grown through CliQ, the instant payment system that lets shoppers pay a merchant alias from their banking app, and eFAWATEERcom, the national bill payment network. Many Jordanian stores list CliQ beside cards and cash, so checkout pages seen from Jordan offer payment routes a foreign card holder never sees.
Saudi Arabia has large marketplaces with local warehouses, such as noon and Amazon.sa, while neither noon nor Amazon runs a Jordanian storefront. Jordanian shoppers therefore rely more on local retailers, social media shops and cross-border sites, and pay by cash on delivery or CliQ more often than by card. JOD prices are much smaller numbers than SAR prices for the same goods, and classifieds run on OpenSooq rather than Haraj.
