Market context
Since 2025 Hausa has been Niger's official language, yet French, kept on as a working language, still fills ministry websites, newspapers and almost every listing online. Hausa dominates speech across the south and centre, from Maradi to Zinder, and Zarma around Niamey, but Hausa writing on the web comes mostly from Nigerian publishers and BBC Hausa, since northern Nigeria produces far more of it. Niger kept the BCEAO's XOF franc after leaving ECOWAS with Mali and Burkina Faso in January 2025. Buyers settle with Airtel Money, with Moov Africa Niger's Moov Money, or in cash handed to the rider.
CoinAfrique carries a Nigerien section where phones, cars and property are posted, largely from Niamey, and many traders skip websites altogether, selling from Facebook pages and WhatsApp. ActuNiger and Tamtaminfo are two established Niamey news outlets that run display ads for local advertisers, and Studio Kalangou, backed by the Swiss Fondation Hirondelle, airs and publishes news in French, Hausa, Zarma, Fulfulde and Tamasheq.
Nigeriens search with Google. French keywords typed in Niamey bring up local pages among Malian, Senegalese and French ones, so rank tracking only means something from inside the country. Nigerien data rules sit in Law No. 2017-28, dating from 3 May 2017, which Law No. 2019-71, passed on 24 December 2019, amended to set up the HAPDP, an independent administrative body that oversees processing.
Three southern cities behave like separate markets. Niamey, on the Niger River in the west, is Zarma-speaking and holds the ministries and head offices. Maradi and Zinder, farther east, are Hausa trading towns that look south to Kano and Katsina; the naira circulates beside the CFA franc in Maradi, so imported goods there often track Nigerian supply and the naira's exchange rate, and the city's Grand Marché handles wholesale, retail and cross-border trade every day. Agadez, at the edge of the Aïr Mountains and the Ténéré, is a far smaller northern market. Listings and map results change from one of these cities to the next, so pick the city before checking.
Measured
Measured from our gateway in the Netherlands. Results describe the test, not a reserved exit, city or network. How we measure
In Niger: Open ActuNiger and Tamtaminfo from Niamey to confirm which campaigns reach Nigerien readers, and that the pages they point to price in XOF and accept Airtel Money or Moov Money.
Ad verification proxies in NigerIn Niger: Track what sellers want for phones, cars and property in CoinAfrique's Nigerien section, set them against Malian and Burkinabe listings, and note how naira swings feed into import prices in Maradi and Zinder.
Market research proxiesIn Niger: Rank French keywords from inside Niger, then test the same topics in Hausa to gauge how Niamey and Maradi businesses fare against the far bigger body of Hausa pages written in Nigeria.

print(response.json())Start in French. Hausa became Niger's official language in 2025, but French stayed on as a working language and still fills nearly every Nigerien site, paper and listing. Hausa queries are worth adding for consumer and media topics, though Nigerian publishers and BBC Hausa will often outrank local pages because northern Nigeria writes much more in the language. Running both from Niamey shows where outlets such as ActuNiger really appear.
Most take Airtel Money, Moov Africa Niger's Moov Money, or cash given to the delivery rider. Traders on CoinAfrique, Facebook and WhatsApp agree the price in a chat and want the money sent to a wallet before or on delivery, and few Nigerien sellers take cards online beyond hotels and larger firms. Prices use the XOF franc, shared with Mali, Burkina Faso and the other WAEMU members.
The HAPDP, Niger's high authority for personal data protection. It is an independent administrative body created when Law No. 2019-71, passed on 24 December 2019, amended the original statute, Law No. 2017-28, which dates from 3 May 2017. It checks that processing follows that law and the international commitments Niger has signed, and when it launched its website it said it would favour information and awareness before sanctions.
