Prices in Zimbabwe come in two currencies at once. The US dollar is used for most listings and larger purchases, while the Zimbabwe Gold (ZWG, or ZiG), introduced in April 2024, is the local currency, and many shops and sites show both. Payment follows the same split: EcoCash from Econet is the dominant mobile wallet, alongside OneMoney from NetOne and InnBucks, and bank transfers run over ZIPIT. Online stores typically take payment through the Paynow gateway, which connects these wallets with local and international cards.
English carries websites and search, while Shona leads social media and radio in Harare and much of the country, and Ndebele around Bulawayo and Matabeleland. For listings, Classifieds.co.zw covers cars, electronics and jobs, and Property.co.zw shows house and land prices in US dollars with a ZiG toggle. News and advertising run through The Herald, NewsDay, NewZimbabwe, ZimLive and H-Metro, with Techzim covering technology and Pindula serving as a local reference and news site. A large diaspora in South Africa and the UK pays for groceries, fees and airtime for family at home, so many Zimbabwean pages serve buyers abroad as well as local ones.
Zimbabwean queries on Google, the dominant engine, often compete with South African pages. Personal data falls under the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] (No. 5 of 2021), with POTRAZ acting as the Data Protection Authority and licensing data controllers under regulations issued in 2024.
Zimbabwe's towns face in different directions. Harare holds most retailers, offices and online sellers. Beitbridge, on the Limpopo, is the busiest road border post in Southern Africa and the main route for goods from South Africa, including parcels carried by informal couriers known as omalayitsha, so supply through that crossing shapes what shops stock. Mutare, on the eastern border, sits on the corridor to Mozambique's port of Beira, while Victoria Falls runs a dollar-priced tourism economy with its own hotels, activities and flights. Bulawayo and the Midlands towns of Gweru and Kwekwe complete the picture, so national price research should sample by town.
