Phones are where most Bangladeshi shopping happens, in Bangla or English, with prices in taka (BDT). Cash on delivery remains common for marketplace orders, and the mobile financial services bKash, Nagad and Rocket are the usual digital alternative, so checkout pages list these wallets prominently next to cards. A great deal of small retail also runs through Facebook pages, with orders taken over Messenger rather than on a website. The weeks before Eid are the busiest shopping season, and marketplace campaigns and delivery cut-offs are planned around them.
Daraz, owned by Alibaba, is the largest general marketplace, Chaldal is the best-known online grocer in Dhaka, Rokomari grew from books into a wider online store, and Bikroy is the main classifieds site for phones, vehicles and property. Foodpanda and Pathao compete in food delivery, Pathao also runs ride-hailing and parcel services, and Shohoz sells bus and launch tickets, while ShareTrip and GoZayaan sell flights and hotels. Dhaka gets the widest delivery coverage, and the same listing can show longer delivery estimates and higher shipping fees in Sylhet, Rajshahi or smaller towns. Prothom Alo, The Daily Star and bdnews24.com are the large news publishers for display-ad checks.
Google dominates search, and keyword sets need Bangla script, English and romanised Bangla, since shoppers mix all three. Personal data is covered by the Personal Data Protection Ordinance, 2025, gazetted on 6 November 2025 with key duties phased in over 18 months; teams handling anything beyond public listings should read it before collecting.
Travel demand in Bangladesh swings hardest around the two Eids, when a large share of Dhaka's residents head to their home districts. Bus, launch and train tickets sell out days ahead, and airfares to Chattogram, Sylhet, Jashore, Saidpur and Cox's Bazar rise on US-Bangla Airlines, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and NOVOAIR. Two infrastructure changes reshaped routes: the Padma Bridge, opened in 2022, moved much southwest travel from ferries to roads, and since December 2023 the Cox's Bazar Express has run by rail from Dhaka to the beach town. Cox's Bazar hotels peak in the dry winter months, so fare and rate checks need fixed travel dates.
