Market context
Search and chat in Nepal mix Devanagari Nepali, Nepali typed in Latin letters and English, and product titles on local stores follow the same pattern. Prices are in Nepalese rupees (NPR), which is pegged to the Indian rupee, so comparisons with Indian sites and border markets are routine. Payment runs through wallets and QR codes, above all eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay, alongside cash on delivery. Delivery coverage is strongest in the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara; hill and mountain districts often wait days longer, and some services do not reach them at all.
Daraz Nepal is the largest general marketplace, and its sale events move prices for electronics and fashion, with the Dashain and Tihar festival season bringing the biggest campaigns of the year. HamroBazar is the usual classifieds site for used phones, motorbikes and furniture. Foodmandu has delivered restaurant food in the Kathmandu Valley since 2010, while Pathao offers rides and food delivery in several cities. Domestic airlines such as Buddha Air and Yeti Airlines charge foreign passengers separate US dollar fares, so fare checks depend on the nationality selected as well as the location. News portals such as Onlinekhabar, Setopati and Kantipur's ekantipur are major ad-supported sites and rank strongly for news and current-affairs searches.
Google is the dominant search engine, and results for Devanagari queries differ from those for the same words typed in Latin script. Personal information is covered by the Privacy Act, 2075 (2018), often called the Individual Privacy Act, and the E-commerce Act, 2025 (2081) adds privacy duties for online sellers.
Nepali sites follow their own calendar and clock. Dates are usually given in Bikram Sambat, the official calendar, which runs 56 to 57 years ahead of the Gregorian one, so most of 2026 falls in 2083 BS, and timestamps use Nepal Standard Time, UTC+5:45. Nepali-language pages often write prices in Devanagari digits. The fiscal year starts in mid-July, and the federal budget, presented each year on Jestha 15 in late May, can change customs duties on phones, vehicles and electronics overnight, so price series around that date need care. Scrapers and dashboards that assume Gregorian dates or whole-hour time offsets misread Nepali data.

print(response.json())Daraz Nepal is the main marketplace for new goods, and its sale campaigns drive the biggest price changes in electronics and fashion. HamroBazar covers second-hand phones, motorbikes, furniture and other classifieds. For restaurant prices and delivery fees, Foodmandu is the long-running option in the Kathmandu Valley and Pathao runs food delivery in several cities. Checkout pages on all of them lean on eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay, with cash on delivery widely offered.
The Nepalese rupee is pegged to the Indian rupee, so buyers can compare prices directly, and many do. Prices for imported electronics on Daraz Nepal can differ from Indian sites because of customs duties and taxes, and the large Indian marketplaces generally do not deliver to Nepal. For a fair comparison, check Nepali listings from a Nepali connection in NPR, include delivery fees to the buyer's city, and convert Indian prices at the fixed rate.
Nepal has no dedicated data protection authority. The Privacy Act, 2075 (2018) requires consent before personal information is collected, stored or published, and the E-commerce Act, 2025 (2081) adds duties for online sellers to keep customer data private. Directives issued in 2025 also govern where payment and cloud data may be hosted.
