Market context
Costa Rican storefronts are in Spanish and price everyday goods in colones (CRC), but US dollars are just as familiar: cars, real estate and hotel rooms are often advertised in dollars, and some shops show both currencies. Small merchants often take payment through SINPE Móvil, the Banco Central de Costa Rica's system for transfers to a phone number, and for goods not sold locally shoppers use casillero (mailbox) services such as Aeropost to buy from US stores.
Encuentra24 is the main classifieds site for property, vehicles and goods, and CRAutos is the reference for used cars. Retail monitoring usually covers Walmart for mainstream groceries, Automercado for imported and premium goods, and the discount chain Pequeño Mundo for household items, EPA for hardware, and Gollo and Tiendas Monge, which sell appliances on credit. Mercado Libre runs a Costa Rican site, and Uber Eats, Rappi and PedidosYa compete in delivery.
The Greater Metropolitan Area around San José, Heredia, Alajuela and Cartago holds most of the population, while Guanacaste and the Pacific coast depend on tourism, with hotel and vacation rental prices quoted in dollars. Google is the main search engine, and La Nación, CRHoy and Teletica are the largest news sites for ad checks. Personal data falls under Law No. 8968 on the Protection of the Person regarding the Processing of Personal Data (2011), supervised by the agency PRODHAB; any project touching personal information should start with a review of it.
Costa Rica has two international gateways serving different parts of the country. Juan Santamaría International, in Alajuela near San José, serves the Central Valley and is the usual entry point for the Caribbean coast and the central Pacific, while Daniel Oduber Quirós International outside Liberia serves Guanacaste's beach resorts and receives direct flights from Air Canada, American, Delta, JetBlue, United and WestJet. Sansa connects San José with beach towns such as Nosara, Quepos, Tamarindo and Tambor, a faster alternative to the shuttle vans and rental cars many visitors use. Rates peak in the dry season from December to April and ease in the rainy months the tourism industry markets as the green season.

print(response.json())Both are common. Supermarkets such as Walmart and Automercado and most everyday retail price in colones (CRC), while cars, real estate, hotel rooms and many services are often listed in US dollars, and some shops show both. Listings on Encuentra24 and CRAutos can be in either currency. When comparing Costa Rican prices, keep the currency with each figure and convert at the date of collection, since the colón floats against the dollar.
Encuentra24 is the main classifieds site for property, vehicles and general goods, and CRAutos is the reference for used cars. Mercado Libre also runs a Costa Rican site. For retail, cover Walmart, Automercado, Pequeño Mundo, EPA, Gollo and Tiendas Monge, and add Uber Eats, Rappi and PedidosYa for delivery. Many Costa Ricans also buy from US stores through casillero services such as Aeropost, so US store prices are a useful comparison for local retail.
