Market context

Why use proxies in Ecuador

Ecuador adopted the US dollar as its currency in 2000, so Ecuadorian stores price in USD, but taxes, import costs and delivery terms make local prices differ from US storefronts selling the same goods. Card purchases are often paid diferido, spread over monthly installments, and retailers advertise how many months each bank's cards can defer without interest. Shop pages, ads and search all run in Spanish.

Two cities anchor the market: Quito, the capital, in the Andean highlands and Guayaquil, the country's main port, on the coast, each with its own leading newspaper, El Comercio and El Universo respectively. Supermaxi and Megamaxi from Corporación Favorita, Tía and Comandato are the retail names teams watch, together with De Prati for fashion and home goods and Mercado Libre Ecuador for marketplace prices. Plusvalia covers property, Patiotuerca lists cars, and PedidosYa and Uber Eats compete in delivery. Cuenca, the third city, and the Galápagos, where goods arrive by sea or air from the mainland, add their own price levels.

Google dominates search, and store, restaurant and property results differ between Quito and Guayaquil, so local ranking checks need to cover both cities. Primicias and Expreso sit beside El Comercio and El Universo as ad inventory. Personal data falls under the Organic Law on Personal Data Protection (Ley Orgánica de Protección de Datos Personales), published in May 2021, with its sanctions regime applying from May 2023 and a Superintendency of Personal Data Protection overseeing it.

Ecuador runs two school calendars, and they shift travel demand. Schools in the Sierra and Amazon region start in September and break in July and August, while the Costa and Galápagos region starts around May and breaks from February to April, so holiday demand and hotel rates peak at different times for families from Quito and from Guayaquil. National holidays add long weekends: Carnaval in February or March, Día de Difuntos on 2 November followed by Cuenca's independence day on 3 November, and the Fiestas de Quito in early December. Flights to the Galápagos leave only from Quito and Guayaquil for the airports on Baltra and San Cristóbal, so island fares should be checked from both cities.

Ecuador proxy FAQ

Why do Ecuadorian websites show prices in US dollars?

Ecuador replaced the sucre with the US dollar in 2000, so every Ecuadorian store, from Supermaxi to Mercado Libre Ecuador, prices in USD. The numbers are still not comparable with US stores: import duties, VAT and local delivery costs change the final figure, and many purchases are paid diferido over several months on bank cards. When comparing Ecuador with Colombia or Peru, convert the neighbors' pesos and soles to dollars at the collection date.

Does Ecuador have a data protection law?

Yes. The Organic Law on Personal Data Protection (Ley Orgánica de Protección de Datos Personales) was published in May 2021, and its sanctions regime began applying in May 2023. A Superintendency of Personal Data Protection oversees compliance. Store prices and delivery fees are not personal data; projects that gather names, cédula numbers or reviewer profiles in Ecuador should be reviewed against the law before they start.

How does Ecuador compare with Colombia for price monitoring?

Ecuador prices in US dollars while Colombia uses the peso, so a Colombian price must be converted at the collection date before any comparison. Delivery apps differ: Rappi, founded in Colombia, does not operate in Ecuador, where PedidosYa and Uber Eats cover delivery, and Uber Eats left Colombia in 2020. Checkout differs as well, with Colombian stores built around PSE transfers and wallets and Ecuadorian stores around card purchases paid diferido.

Does TrueProxies have residential proxies in Ecuador?

Yes. 66 of 72 test requests exited in Ecuador on October 1, 2026, from 61 IPs in Guayaquil, Quito and Machala on Telconet, UFINET PANAMA and SERVICIOS DE TELECOMUNICACIONES SETEL (XTRIM EC). Both plans can also target a city there; GB-based plans add region and ASN targeting.
