Market context
Chilean checkouts have their own habits. Many ask for the buyer's RUT, the national tax ID; cards go through Transbank's Webpay or wallets such as Mercado Pago and MACH; and department stores show a separate, lower price for their own credit cards, such as Falabella's CMR, next to cuotas sin interés offers. Everyday prices are in Chilean pesos (CLP), while property and some rents are quoted in UF (Unidad de Fomento), an inflation-indexed unit whose peso value changes every day.
The sites price teams watch are Mercado Libre Chile, Falabella.com, Paris.cl and Ripley.cl for general merchandise and Lider for groceries. Chile also has its own price-tracking sites: SoloTodo compares hardware prices across stores, and Knasta keeps price histories that show whether a sale price is real. Portal Inmobiliario and Toctoc carry property listings, while PedidosYa, Rappi and Uber Eats compete in delivery. Online sales peak during CyberDay, organized by the Cámara de Comercio de Santiago, and again around Black Friday.
Google is the dominant search engine, and Emol (El Mercurio), La Tercera, BioBioChile and 24 Horas are the main news sites for ad checks. The country's length affects delivery: shipping times and costs quoted for Santiago addresses differ from those for Arica in the far north or Punta Arenas in Magallanes. Personal data is covered by Law 19.628 on the Protection of Private Life (1999). Law 21.719, published in December 2024, amends it and creates a Personal Data Protection Agency, with the new rules taking effect on 1 December 2026; teams handling personal information should plan for both.
Chilean airfares and bus prices respond to geography and season. LATAM, which is based in Santiago, competes on domestic routes with the Chilean low-cost carriers Sky Airline and JetSMART, and flights to Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Calama and Iquique replace road journeys that take many hours or days. Long-distance buses run by Turbus and Pullman Bus remain the cheaper option on shorter routes. Patagonia, including Torres del Paine, fills up in the southern summer from December to February, the Andes ski resorts near Santiago such as Valle Nevado and Portillo peak from June to September, and the Fiestas Patrias holidays around 18 September set off a nationwide travel rush.

print(response.json())Large Chilean retailers often show a normal price next to a lower price for paying with their own credit card, such as Falabella's CMR or the Ripley card, and cuotas sin interés offers add another layer. Many checkouts also ask for a RUT. When collecting Chilean prices, capture every price shown and the card or condition attached to it, and use SoloTodo or Knasta histories to see whether a sale is a real discount.
Law 19.628 on the Protection of Private Life, in force since 1999, still applies. Law 21.719, published on 13 December 2024, amends it substantially, creates a Personal Data Protection Agency and takes effect on 1 December 2026, so projects running into 2027 should plan for the new rules. Collecting public prices and rankings rarely involves personal data, but anything that gathers names, RUTs or reviewer profiles should be checked against both texts.
Both cities have free trade zones. The Zona Franca de Iquique (ZOFRI), in the northern Tarapacá Region, includes a public shopping center with more than 600 stores selling electronics, appliances, perfume, clothing and toys, and Punta Arenas has its own free zone in the far south. Prices there can undercut Santiago retailers on imported goods, so national price studies in Chile should either treat these zones separately or leave them out.
