Why use proxies in Fiji
Fiji's online market is small, English-language and shaped by tourism and mobile money. Storefronts and search run in English, with iTaukei and Fiji Hindi common in everyday use, and prices are in FJD. Vodafone Fiji's M-PAiSA and Digicel's MyCash wallets are widely used alongside cards and bank transfer, and hire purchase is still a normal way to buy furniture and appliances: Courts Fiji advertises it online next to click and collect.
Local retail sites are few, and each works differently. MH Online, the web store of the MH supermarket chain, gives free delivery on orders over FJ$200 within 5 km of selected stores, so delivery terms depend on how close the buyer is to a branch. Vinod Patel sells hardware and home goods in FJD and accepts M-PAiSA. Local news and display advertising run through The Fiji Times and Fijivillage among others, and many small businesses sell through Facebook pages rather than their own sites.
Tourism sets the prices most outsiders compare. Resorts on Denarau, the Coral Coast and the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands sell through their own sites and online travel agencies, and Fiji Airways fares and South Sea Cruises island transfers are worth checking as a Fijian visitor sees them, since airline and tour prices often vary with the country and currency of the booking. Google is the main search engine. Fiji has no general data-protection law yet: section 24 of the 2013 Constitution protects privacy, and Cabinet endorsed a National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy in 2025 as the basis for future legislation.
Domestic travel is a separate price category in Fiji because many of its islands are reached only by small aircraft or boat. Fiji Link, the domestic subsidiary of Fiji Airways, flies from its Nadi hub and from Suva's Nausori Airport to Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni and Kadavu, and to smaller islands including Rotuma and Vanua Balavu. Northern Air serves Suva, Nadi, Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Levuka and Moala, and also flies charters. Both sell seats online in FJD, so a Taveuni or Savusavu resort package can be compared with the domestic fare a buyer would otherwise pay on top of an international ticket to Nadi.
