Vanuatu has three official languages, Bislama, English and French, and its websites reflect that split: government and tourism sites publish in English and often French, while Bislama, the national lingua franca, is common on radio and social media. Prices are in vatu (VUV). Banking runs through ANZ, BSP, BRED and the National Bank of Vanuatu, and Vodafone Vanuatu, one of two mobile networks alongside Digicel, runs the M-VATU mobile money service. Few local shops run their own online checkout, and many businesses use Facebook pages to publish prices and take enquiries.
Tourism drives most of the prices outsiders compare. Resorts, tours and transfers on Efate around Port Vila, on Espiritu Santo near Luganville and on Tanna are sold through the Vanuatu Tourism Office's booking site, which runs in English and French, and through large online travel agencies. Air travel changed in 2024, when Air Vanuatu went into liquidation; it now sells domestic flights to islands such as Santo and Tanna, while international fares to Port Vila come from Australian and New Caledonian carriers such as Virgin Australia, Qantas and Aircalin.
Local news and advertising run through the Vanuatu Daily Post and VBTC's Radio Vanuatu and Television Blong Vanuatu. Google is the main search engine, and checking in both English and French shows which local operators have pages in each language. Vanuatu's Data Protection and Privacy Act No. 13 of 2024, in force since early 2025, covers both the public and private sectors and reaches some processing outside the country.
What a visitor pays in Vanuatu depends heavily on the island. Efate, around Port Vila, holds most hotels, restaurants and tour desks, but the best-known excursions are elsewhere: day and overnight trips to the Mount Yasur volcano on Tanna, dives on the wreck of the SS President Coolidge off Espiritu Santo, and the Naghol land diving on southern Pentecost, now staged weekly from April to June, where spectators have typically paid 10,000 to 12,000 vatu. Air Taxi Vanuatu sells volcano and land-diving tours from Port Vila that combine the flight with the visit, so their prices are best compared with separate flight and tour bookings.
