Market context
Since 1 January 2026, Bulgarian storefronts have priced in euros (EUR) instead of lev, and they are written in Cyrillic. Shops had to show both currencies from August 2025 until 8 August 2026, so price histories collected across that period mix lev and euro figures. Cash on delivery is still a normal way to pay, and delivery to an Econt or Speedy courier office is offered at most checkouts alongside home delivery.
eMAG.bg is the biggest general online store, with Ozone.bg and Technopolis strong in electronics, games and books, while OLX.bg and Bazar.bg lead general classifieds. Mobile.bg is the main site for used cars and imot.bg for property. Restaurant delivery is split between Glovo, Wolt, Takeaway.com and Bolt Food, each with its own restaurant list and fees in the largest cities. Dnevnik, 24 Chasa and Dir.bg are major news sites, and abv.bg, a widely used local email portal, carries its own display advertising. Hotel rates in Black Sea resorts such as Sunny Beach and Golden Sands, and in the Bansko ski area, swing sharply between seasons.
Google dominates search, and product queries in Cyrillic pull in eMAG.bg, Ozone.bg and smaller local shops competing for the same keywords. Some users still type Bulgarian in Latin letters, so keyword checks should include transliterated forms as well. Personal data falls under the GDPR and the Personal Data Protection Act of 2002, amended in 2019 to implement it.
Bulgaria's retail calendar has several local peaks. On 1 March, Baba Marta Day, people exchange red-and-white martenitsi, and 8 March, International Women's Day, is still a big day for flowers and gifts, so florists and gift shops promote heavily in the first week of March. Easter follows the Orthodox calendar and often falls on a different Sunday from Western Easter, moving food and gift promotions with it. The school year opens on 15 September, which drives back-to-school offers through late August and early September, and Black Friday in November has become a major online sales week, led by eMAG.

print(response.json())Euros. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, and the lev stopped being legal tender after a one-month dual circulation period. Shops had to display both currencies from 8 August 2025 until 8 August 2026, so price data collected across that year may show lev, euro or both on the same page. When comparing against older records, convert lev at the fixed rate of 1.95583 per euro rather than a market rate.
eMAG.bg is the largest general store, with Ozone.bg and Technopolis close competitors for electronics, games and books. OLX.bg and Bazar.bg carry general classifieds, Mobile.bg is the main used-car site and imot.bg the main property site. Glovo, Wolt, Takeaway.com and Bolt Food compete for delivery in the largest cities. Most checkouts offer cash on delivery or collection from an Econt or Speedy office, which changes the final price shown.
eMAG started in Romania and runs both markets, and OLX and Glovo also operate in both countries, so many of the same brands appear. The differences are currency and script: Romania still prices in lei (RON) and writes in Latin script, while Bulgarian stores price in euros and write in Cyrillic. Promotions, delivery fees and stock are set per country, so each market needs its own check rather than a converted Romanian price.
