Prices in Hungary are in forints (HUF), and cash on delivery (utánvét) is still offered by many web shops beside card payment through local gateways such as SimplePay and Barion. Jófogás covers general classifieds and used goods, Használtautó.hu is the main used-car site, and ingatlan.com leads property listings. Kifli.hu, Tesco and Auchan sell groceries online, Szállás.hu is the main domestic holiday booking site, and Foodora and Wolt compete in food delivery; both accept the SZÉP card, an employer-funded benefit card for food and leisure which adds a separate payment option at Hungarian checkouts. Budapest holds much of the delivery-app and property market, so prices there do not represent Debrecen, Szeged, Pécs or smaller towns. Index, Telex, 24.hu and hvg.hu are among the most-read news publishers.
Google dominates search. Hungarian attaches case endings to nouns, so one product or place name appears in many forms, such as 'Budapest', 'Budapesten' and 'Budapestre', and rankings for each form can differ; keyword lists need the inflected versions as well as spellings with and without accents such as ő and ű. Personal data falls under the GDPR and Act CXII of 2011 on the Right of Informational Self-Determination and on Freedom of Information.
Hungary's travel prices follow two poles: Budapest and Lake Balaton. Which marketplaces matter for price monitoring in Hungary?
Árukereső is the starting point, because it lists offers from a wide range of Hungarian web shops in one place. eMAG.hu and Alza.hu are major sellers of electronics and household goods, Allegro.hu arrived in October 2024 by taking over Mall.hu, and MediaMarkt runs a large web shop. Jófogás and Használtautó.hu set second-hand prices. Record whether a price includes delivery and whether cash on delivery adds a fee, since shops often charge extra for utánvét.
Why do keyword rankings in Hungary need so many variations?
Hungarian adds case endings directly to words, so 'lakás' (flat) becomes 'lakást', 'lakások' or 'lakásban' depending on the sentence. People search with these forms, and Google does not always treat them as the same query. A Hungarian ranking set should include the common inflected forms of each product and city name, checked on google.hu from inside Hungary. Accented letters such as ő and ű also matter, because many users leave them out when typing.
What changes the final price at checkout in Hungary?
Prices include Hungary's 27% standard VAT, the highest standard rate in the EU. Cash payments, including cash on delivery, are rounded to the nearest 5 forints because 1 and 2 forint coins were withdrawn in 2008. Many shops add a fee for utánvét, and food orders can be paid with the SZÉP benefit card. Tobacco never appears in online shops, since it has been sold only in state-licensed Nemzeti Dohánybolt stores since July 2013.
