Why use proxies in Moldova
Moldovan online shops usually run in Romanian and Russian side by side, and many users switch between the two, so product names, search queries and ad copy exist in both languages. Prices are in Moldovan lei (MDL). Cash on delivery remains widely offered beside cards issued by local banks such as maib and Moldindconbank. Chisinau accounts for much of the online demand, and stock and delivery times for Balti, the second city, and smaller towns often differ.
999.md dominates classifieds for cars, property, jobs and second-hand goods, with Makler.md as a smaller rival. Electronics and appliance retail is concentrated in chains such as Darwin, Maximum and Enter, and Price.md compares prices across shops in Chisinau and nationwide. Glovo covers food and grocery delivery in the capital, and Orange Moldova and Moldcell, the two main mobile operators, sell phones and plans online. Point.md, NewsMaker and TV8 are widely read news sites, several of them publishing in both languages.
Google is the main search engine, but Romanian-language and Russian-language queries for the same product lead to different sets of shops and publishers, so rankings need checking in both. As an EU candidate, Moldova has been aligning its consumer and data rules with EU law. Personal data falls under Law No. 195/2024 on personal data protection, which closely follows the GDPR and replaced Law No. 133/2011 when it became applicable on 23 August 2026.
Moldova's regions differ in language and currency. In the autonomous territorial unit of Gagauzia, centred on Comrat, Russian is the main language of everyday commerce alongside Gagauz, so Russian-language pages matter more there than in the capital. The Transnistrian region on the left bank of the Dniester uses its own Transnistrian ruble, convertible only inside the region, so local prices there are not quoted in MDL. Wine tourism has its own booking pages and calendar: the cellars of Cricova and Mileștii Mici, whose collection holds a Guinness record as the world's largest, and the Purcari estate draw visitors, and National Wine Day fills Chisinau in early October.

How does Moldova's online market compare with Romania's?
The two share a language but little else online. Romania has large marketplaces such as eMAG, a classifieds market led by OLX, prices in RON and EU consumer rules. Moldova prices in MDL, runs its own platforms led by 999.md, Darwin and Maximum, and serves many pages in Russian as well as Romanian. Moldova's new data protection law now follows the GDPR, but results collected in Romania do not stand in for Moldovan pages.
What changed in Moldova's data protection rules in 2026?
Law No. 195/2024 on personal data protection became applicable on 23 August 2026 after a two-year transition, replacing Law No. 133/2011.
